Early voting started only 4 days ago and already over 270,000 North Carolinians have voted. (go to the bottom for updated numbers as of 10/21)
The exact number as of Saturday at 10am was 279,274. In 2004, 3,552,449 votes were cast in North Carolina. The number of early voters so far this year is already 8% of the total that voted in 2004. In 2004 30% of the votes were early and with the current trend, 2008 looks to increase this number greatly. 12 more days remain to vote early.
Do the early numbers show any new trends? One is that a huge majority of the early voters are Democratic. This could swing polls in the state even more towards Election Day, making North Carolina look even more blue than polls are already showing.
The breakdown of the early votes thus far-
Dem 54.1%
Rep 29.7%
White 69.9%
Black 26.5%
One-Stop 76.8%
