City to Build North Raleigh Community Center

The City of Raleigh will build a 40,000 square foot, $9 Million Community Center off of Thornton Road, on almost 65 acres of land near Capital Boulevard and Durant.

The City plans to use the rest of the site as park space, eventually building trails and other facilities. The Community Center will have multiple gymnasia, locker rooms, meeting areas, offices, and storage.  The facility will be paid for by the Parks Bond that voters approved this past November.

From talking to someone at the News and Observer, only the site location was approved by the City Council recently.  No funding has been allocated for design and construction until at least 2010ish.  Has that changed?

Nevermind, I see that it was approved at this weeks City Council meeting.  I’m very excited about this for the North Raleigh area.
