Raleigh’s only locally owned outdoor gear shop is going from two Raleigh locations to one.  Great Outdoor Provision Co. is ending its lease for the Falls of the Neuse location and consolidating to the one Cameron Village store.

“We’d of loved to have stayed there, but the lease agreement was not one we could come to agreement on,” says Chuck Millsap, Great Outdoor’s vice president of marketing.

Millsap says that the lease is with Greensboro-based Bell Partners. A Bell Partners representative could not immediately be reached for comment.

If you haven’t gotten to check out the shop, Great Outdoor Provision Co. has a friendly, knowledgable staff and carries some great lines of outdoor gear; and best of all, it’s locally owned.

I wasn’t aware that it was locally-owned.  The fact that my friends all over the southeast know about the Provision Co. means that much more now.

Great Outdoor not only sponsors Wake Audubon, they donate money and gifts to almost every local environmental group!  Sierra Club,  TLC, Museum of Natural Sciences.  I love supporting a local business that does so much to give back to so many.  Plus, they have great stuff and the folks are so nice.

I bought a tent there a couple months ago, the people are super helpful.

It seemed smaller and that shopping center is odd.  They have 4 street front shops that block the whole shopping center.  The restaurant that was on the corner by GOPC has been vacant for well over a year.  On the other side of GOPC is where The Fresh Market was and that has been vacant for maybe a year.

They are a great locally-owned alternative to REI and other shops.

In addition to their Cameron Village store, they also have a location at Chapel Hill’s Eastgate Center, and stores in Charlotte, Wilmington and the Triad.
