Last night about 200 supporters gathered for the opening of Senator Obama’s office in downtown Raleigh to mix and mingle, meet the field organizers, determine their districts, and eat. Volunteers brought enough food to feed 400 however, raising the age old question, just how many people can a potluck really accommodate? Seriously though, while the line moved slowly, there was an abundance of food and conversation. Drop in at 130 E. Morgan St. to see how you can contribute to the Campaign for Change, which hopes to utilize the grassroots enthusiasm for Obama to help Democrats across the ticket.

The big news announced at the opening is Howard Dean’s visit this Friday, July 25th. Dean and the Register for Change bus will roll into the Raleigh at 9 am at the NC Democratic Party Headquarters at 220 Hillsborough St., with the aim of “Taking Our Country Back Neighborhood by Neighborhood, Door by Door, Vote by Vote.”

I went and it was packed (and at least 90 degrees.)  People were lined up in the rain to get in.

I hope there is room for a Mosque and Taco Bell on the same block.

The nearest Mosque is down Hargett aways, and while there isn’t a Taco Bell anywhere nearby, you can find actual Mexican food at Dos Taquitos Centro right around the corner and El Rodeo a little farther down Blount.  Hope to see you there!

I usually park near the headquarters and walk to the courthouse from there.  Unfortunately the lack of elevators at the courthouse is a serious problem, and although I can hike a few flights of stairs just fine, 13 is tough going.  The best thing about seeing a line outside of the Obama headquarters is that I know the courthouse will be much less crowded.
