In what could only be called the Baklava of the South, Chef Alan Rubin of Murphy House brings fried pecan pie to the State Fair this year. Rubin also has deep-fried mac-n-cheese. Chef’s Dlites will have deep-fried mac-n-cheese as well as deep-fried banana pudding and fruit cobbler. Poppie’s Onion Rings will have corn dogs filled with cheese and hot peppers.
All of the oil used for frying food this year at the fair will be converted to biodiesel after use. All the generators at the fair also run on biodiesel. This year’s fair has a sub theme of green and has an exhibit called Green NC where fairgoers can learn about ways they can decrease their environmental impact. The fair opens to the public Thursday afternoon, watch New Raleigh this week for a full preview.
