If you caught the Oscars last night, you know that Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova accepted, very graciously, the Oscar for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture. The song is called “Falling Slowly” and is the opening track on the soundtrack for the film Once. The duo performed the song in grand fashion on the awards show. After performing the song, they were awarded with the Oscar and Hansard was able to say his thanks but the Academy cut Irglova off with the overhead music. After the break, host Jon Stewart brought Irglova back on stage to say her thanks which ended up being one of the most memorable moments in recent Oscar history. Word comes through the grapevine that the Irish duo will be playing Meymandi Hall in May. This information isn’t on the Progress Energy’s site yet, but tickets go on sale Friday.
The date of the show is May 15th and the duo will be performing songs from the Once Soundtrack as well as their follow up The Swell Season. If you like tradition Irish music, folk music, and Damien Rice (with a bit more optimism), this show is for you. Meymandi is a great venue to see this type of concert and I’m sure the duo will not disappoint.
Tickets should be available through Progress Energy Center or Cats Cradle on Friday and will be $35 / $30.
