PBaRt v2.0 Show Friday at Designbox

A uniquely Raleigh event, The 2nd annual First Friday “PBaRt Show v2.0” will take place at Designbox Gallery on May 6, 2011 from 6pm-11pm. All artwork is priced $25, $50, $75 or $100 for anyone’s collection. The PBaRt exhibit includes limited edition PBR themed originals by Raleigh’s biggest names. Spend the evening with live music, acrobatic entertainment, fire performances, free pics from the photo booth, food-truck food and an exclusive aerial fashion show! Admission is FREE. A suggested $2 - $20 donation will be greatly appreciated and accepted on behalf of the Visual Art Exchange [501(c)3] and circusSPARK.

Artwork is curated by celebrity pop-artist Paul Friedrich, who also created the "PBR and the Unicorn You Rode in on" poster art. Featured artists include Holly Aiken, Greg Clayton, Mark Elmore, Eric Knisley, Andrew Goldfarb, Adam Peele, David Rose, Bart Cusick, Artie Barksdale, Victor Knight, Deneé Black, Gus Fink, Emi Boz, Anna Taylor, Skillet Gilmore, and Paul Friedrich.

Who needs a runway when you have a trapeze? High flying fashion meets circus couture when Raleigh Denim teams up with AcroEntertainment to debut The Curatory's new line of woman's pants in an original aerial fashion show at 7:30pm. Acrobatic trapeze artist, Kaci Torres, says she is, “excited to wear the workshop’s newest line while hanging upside down because you will be able to see the quality at every angle.” According to Raleigh Denim co-founder, Victor Lytvinenko, “these jeans are made for karate kicks and looking good.” AcroEntertainment will perform additional acrobatic feats at 8:30pm. Phoenix Rising will team up with circusSPARK to showcase the North Carolina’s hottest fire dancers at 10pm. As the event name alludes, PBaRt Show v2.0 promises to be bigger and better than the kick-off event in 2010.

Enjoy live musical performances by Brett Harris (Durham), Crystal Bright & the Silver Hands (Greensboro) and Skullbuckle (Raleigh). Denmark Records DJ's Casanova Brown, Zaiah & Holygrailers will open and close the event. The free concert is hosted in the parking lot between Designbox and the Humble Pie restaurant. Wine, spirits and PBR may be purchased at Humble Pie. Bicycle riders welcome!

it’s so inspiring to see raleigh’s artists selling out to the same corporate marketing stunt that PBR has shoveled out all over the US, and then this blog reporting the event as “uniquely raleigh.” i’m sure i’ve not seen a promo for any event that better represents raleigh’s identity crisis and passion for irrelevance than this one. durham wins again just for *not* doing this.

Honest question here, since I’m not a participant in this segment of Raleigh…..do these types of events have the same exact attendees every time? Based on what this show is about (and the apparent agreement among the commentors), it seems like the same group that would attend the Big Boss/Food Truck, go to Jackpot, and think the Hobo comic is funny. If so, how large is this group anyway?
I have a tough time envisioning the larger population going to this.
