Plagiarism: MSF Technologies, Cameron Bar & Grill

Despite repeated requests,* MSF Technologies Project, the web developer for Cameron Bar & Grill’s website, continues to plagiarize original copyrighted New Raleigh content.  They have now taken down the images that were stolen directly from New Raleigh, but are still passing off part of New Raleigh’s writeup on the new restaurant as part of their deliverables for their paid contract with the owners of Cameron Bar & Grill, while giving no credit whatsoever to the original author and/or owner of the content. MSF Technologies has made no effort to contact/reply to New Raleigh.  Thanks to our readers who brought this to our attention.

*New Raleigh spoke with the owner of Cameron Bar and Grill, who claimed he told MSF Technologies more than once that “you can’t do that” in reference to copy and pasting original copyrighted images and text found on the New Raleigh website.

    This is really just sad on so many levels. Had they simply quoted your article and cited the reference, the site would have much more credibility—not because it negates the label of plagiarism, but because they have a positive review from a local media source. Instead, they are alienating local media sources as well as showing they cannot provide their own content.

    Shooting yourself in the face doesn’t begin to describe this type of action—both for MSF and Cameron Bar and Grill. They (Cameron Bar and Grill) would be wise to drop this company like a scalding hot potato. The fact they have been “told MSF Technologies more than once that “you can’t do that” and they continue to retain them as the web design/management company reflects poorly on the owners of this establishment.

    Wow - lots of poor choices going on there. Out of curiosity (because I won’t even pretend to know anything about copyright laws other than that you should ALWAYS credit sources)... regarding the images… were they pictures you snapped up while dining inside Cameron? If so, where does that fall in the realm of who actually owns them? Is it strict line of whoever takes the picture owns it or is it fuzzy?

    As John said, they would have made the restaurant more credible by citing your words as a local critique!

    Hi,
    I was just at the Cameron Bar & Grill.  I was just also reading this article and these 2 responses.
    My experience at the restaurant was so great.
    It is beautiful, the food was perfect, and the staff is so nice. Perfect addition to Raleigh.
    This kind of article misunderstanding easily happens….we shouldn’t place blame on this great new addition to Cameron Village - nor the owners.
    I went to their website and doesn’t have the articles. I always appreciate being informed - and it seems to be cleared up. I hope that everyone can all move forward and not be upset over this. Go give the Cameron a try - take care and thank you for the opportunity to respond.

    The oddest thing to me about this is that the web designer(s) chose to include a negative statement about a neighboring business (Cherry Modern Furniture).  No one would think that it’s a good idea to snark about unrelated businesses in an advertisement!

    Maybe it’s a cultural thing.  In some countries, Plagiarism is not seen in as poor a light as it is here.  In grad school, I was witness to several students lifting entire papers for use in assignments, with no apparent knowledge that it would pose a problem.
