Best of the Best

Given the current economy, fewer businesses have opened up downtown this year. Fortunately, we’ve had a handful of quality new additions so far in 2009. While it may be apples and oranges, we would like to know between Jibarra, Boylan Bridge Brewpub, Remedy Diner, and Foundation, which business is your favorite new addition to downtown Raleigh?

I love Jibarra but I dont think it has a chance in this poll.  Its like through The Mint into the poll if it were new.

I’m going with Tobacco Road, since I don’t consider opening in the last two weeks of ‘08 exactly “opening in ‘08”. grin

I’m more than a little supprised that Sitti isn’t a choice.  I’ve had 3 or 4 great experiences there since it opened, and that place is allways packed on the weekends.

@ROI-I think you missed the three requirements for this post:  “quality additions” and “in 2009” and “downtown Raleigh”. Both of these non-downtown establishments have been open for underage kids to drink at for years now.

I second for the Ugly Monkey! That place is awesome!

Why are people struggling with “new additions of 2009”.  Its fairly straightforward folks!

    I voted Jibarra.
Did Sitti open after the new year or before?  I can’t remember.

Wanted to try Remedy and Foundation last night, but it turns out the Remedy is closed on Sundays. So went to the Times and Foundation: new Times menu is good, and the Foundation was as good as the notes on here seemed to indicate.

The homemade ginger ale was really good, as was the Old Fashioned, or whatever that 5-word description on the menu was.

    Sitti opened late Nov.

The Remedy is good. Siti is nice, too, but it opened last year so its not a valid choice for this poll. I wish someone would but some kind of French resturant in the old Riviera space. We need a good French food place.

I found the homemade ginger ale a bit cloying at Foundation. Otherwise, the atmosphere was enjoyable and a nice change.

if sitti were eligible, I’d vote for it. since its not and I can’t, I have to vote for ugly monkey… there are now two true raleigh DJs playing friday (merlin) and saturday (forge)

Only thing about ugly monkey, the place itself sucks.  Horrible place.  Been once, never goin back and I like when Merlin or Forge spins.  That place is just wack in general.

Ugly Monkey sucks so bad.  Reminds me of crappy bars @ ECU.

    ^, ^^

Why? And who would that be in particular?

Jibarra is not good.  Iffy waitstaff, slow service, and overpriced, bland food won’t get me back.
Boylan is suffering some growing pains.  I went last week, and only two of their six beers were available.  Our waitress did not know the menu, and after I ordered my parmesan chicken fingers, she returned later to tell me they didn’t have any that night.  This was at five o’clock on a Saturday.  I will give them another shot however.
I have eaten at Remedy twice and have been pleased both times.  I do wish they offered more of a dinner menu at night.  I thought they were supposed to have specials, but have yet to incorporate them into the menu.
Went to Foundation last weekend.  Cool environment, and great service.  I drank Knob Creek’s mixed with their house made cola.  Very tasty.

    Second Brocktoon.
Jibarra….. ” Upscale Mexican ” I’m not even going to discuss that one…
    Latin-inspired at best.

Look, that place is going to get my business again.
But my two meals there have been bland.

And I don’t mean, ” food taste bland to me because I am a knuckle dragging southerner whom must put salt and Texas Pete upon my food to taste it “

With all of the good ideas they have…somewhere they are not delivering on the flavor.

    Looking forward to being wrong.
Because Dos Tacquitos isn’t doing it either.
    Yeah, i said it.
