When you think of a portrait of Raleigh, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it images of historical buildings like the Capitol or the Briggs? Is it new structures like the Shimmer Wall? Or, is more along the line of its people?

The Raleigh City Museum asked this question to photographers last year, and the result was astounding. Over 375 entries were received in a call for entries for photographs that served as a portrait of Raleigh. The exhibit was a success, with over 1,100 people coming to the openings for Series One and Series Two of the exhibit, and the News & Observer doing a cover story opening weekend.

The museum has put out a call for Portraits of Raleigh 2, a juried photography exhibition at the RCM. All photos are due by July 9, 2010 at 7pm, and as long as it was taken by you and in Raleigh, any photo is eligible. They are looking for people and places that resonate with you what the city is about, even if it was taken yesterday or 50 years ago. The photography exhibition will open with a First Friday reception on August 6, 2010. The number of submissions will determine if there is a Series One and Series Two, so send in those photos.

For complete details on how to submit your photographs, visit the Portraits of Raleigh webpage.
