Raleigh and Pittsburgh Mayors Make Friendly Hockey Bet

Well, well, well my friends. It looks like the mayors of Raleigh and Pittsburgh have a friendly little wager on the Hurricanes-Penguins East Conference Finals matchup. Our local beer and grub for theirs. Let’s hope they enjoy the BBQ and beer…although the Canes are down 1-0.

Mayor Meeker placed 10 pounds of The Pit’s Carolina chopped barbecue and a case of Big Boss Raleigh-brewed beer that the Carolina Hurricanes will wrest the Prince of Wales Cup from the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins are the 2008 Eastern Conference champions.

Mayor Ravenstahl countered with five pounds of Isaly’s chipped chopped ham, three dozen pierogies and a case of Iron City beer.

(We know that the photo above shows the Stanley Cup and not the Price of Wales Cup…...There’s a little hopefulness in the Classic Concentration inspired graphic. Hurricanes + Prince of Wales Cup = Stanley Cup Finals. Maybe always painting inside the lines is mandatory for some, but we love scribbling in the margins.)

Big Boss vs. Iron City? Come on Pittsburgh, we deserve better!

Based on on their wager, I’d say Pittsburgh doesn’t think much of the Oak City.

I agree….Iron City is what we drank when we were broke in college…doesn’t even compare with a great local brew like Big Boss.  And chipped ham….don’t even get me started.  I am with Walker.

Please change the picture of the cup.  This bet is over the Prine of Wales trophy and not the ultimate trophy.

If Meeker’s team wins, he should ship that crap back to Pitt and tell them thanks, but no thanks.

I have a bet for Big Boss selections versus Pennsylvania Brewing Company selections with a buddy of mine in Pittsburgh.  For Pittsburgh’s mayor to think Iron City is ‘worthy’ makes me glad we aren’t in the fight against a team from <gulp> “old” Milwaukee!

And keep the Stanley Cup picture! It keeps up the hockey tradition of NOT touching the P.o.W trophy!  Sue, you should know better! LOL

Having lived in both cities, Raleigh is getting the shaft.  Chipped ham is the meat I ate in college when I couldn’t afford anything else. We should lobby for Penn Pilsner.  It’s much closer in quality in Big Boss ( although Big Boss is better ).

I think the bet should be if the Canes win then Scott Walker gets to punch the Mayor of Pittsburgh in the face for offering chipped ham and shitty beer.
