Raleigh has voted to become the newest Cool City
Thanks to David for posting the initial TTA letter.
Letter from the Conservation Organizer of the NC Sierra Club
Dear Friends,
The Raleigh City Council passed the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement this afternoon (Tuesday August 7th) by a 7-1 vote. There is no doubt that the 100+ e-mails each member of the Council received on this issue made a huge difference. Thank you so much to each of you for your support!
The Sierra Club will likely hold an event later this summer to formally present Mayor Meeker and the City of Raleigh with the Cool Cities designation and we will be sure to invite you. Together we can make Raleigh tops in the Southeast when it comes to cities doing their part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
We will be in touch. Until then make sure to keep up with all the great work being done by the Capital Group of the Sierra Club.
Thanks again for your support- it paid off!

The lone vote against it was Phillip Isley, who upon being asked why he voted against it said that he agreed with the purpose of the iniative and the need for reducing carbon emissions, but didn’t vote for it because it criticized the US for not signing the Kyoto Protocol. Ha
