Billie Jean Redmond says we need a businesswoman and entrepreneur as mayor of Raleigh.  I agree.
Billie Jean Redmond says we need a mayor who can focus on economic development and move Raleigh to the forefront nationally.  I agree.
Billie Jean Redmond says we need a mayor who will move to control taxes and the budget.  I agree.
Billie Jean Redmond says we need a mayor who understands that government and business should work together to keep Raleigh a wonderful place to live and work.  I agree.

That’s why I am voting for Nancy McFarlane.

The definition of ‘conservative’ in and of itself contradicts everything Billie Jean (is not my lover) Redmond professes.

Raleigh is on the ‘cusp’.  the last thing we need is another Tom Fetzer or Paul Coble whose brilliant ‘visions’ planted our arena in a parking lot in the middle of nowhere.

No offense to the Pack faithful.

Raleigh doesn’t have a school district.  How exactly would anybody at city hall address that?

Nice article and thanks for the list but it is a mistake that you mentioned schools.  That’s a county thing…in NC, cities make no decisions on schools.
    .

I have to agree with John and Joe.  I’m for Nancy McFarlane too.  Redmond says some nice things, but I’m convinced she’d just be Tom Fetzer in heels.  (Oh the irony….)

^^Oh sorry.  I just noticed you listed Wake Edu board races too.  Nevermind the first part of my last comment!  Sorry.

Nancy McFarlane has spent four years on the council. In that time she has: raised property taxes two times. She’s raised fees on businesses three times. She has raised water rates three times, and voted to raise auto registration.

What has she done positive to help our businesses and citizens to help improve our local economy? And she claims to be the business friendly candidate? Please.

There is only one candidate that has the experience and leadership we need to improve our local economy, and that’s Billie Redmond.

Namcy McFarlane is the only person running for mayor that has the experience to keep Raleigh going in the right direction that is has been going on in the last 10 years. Raleigh is growing into a great city and I want to keep it going in that direction that keeps in on all the major “best” lists. We do not need to go back to the short sightedness that we experienced with Republicans before Meeker. Nancy has the experience and the knowledge to make a GREAT mayor. She has my vote!!!

Update:  The Wake County GOP endorsed Redmond according to the N&O.

This is the same group of people that is so enthusiastic about teabag reactionaries such as Fetzer, Coble, Ellmers, Margiotta and Tedesco…among others.
This should tell you all you really need to know about Redmond then.

    It does, actually. Thanks, RaleighRob.

Yes kallsmokle, Nancy McFarlane raised taxes (WITH HER BARE HANDS!) to oppress citizens of Raleigh. Study up on how the Raleigh city counsel works and how the recession has hurt the city’s budget… then come back when you have a single clue as to what you are talking about.

Billie Redmond is a self-interested idiot with absolutely no knowledge of how to run a city… and Randall Williams is even worse (the dude is an OBGYN… gimme a freakin’ break). Each of them would be a repeat of the mistakes known as Tom Fetzer and Paul Coble. Nancy McFarlane is the only good option.

Well, none of them have the exact right agenda for Raleigh, but its looking like I’m voting for anyone BUT Nancy McFarlane. The Meeker regime has ruined Raleigh enough… all they’ve done is turn the city into a yuppie’s paradise while corrupting its integrity at the same time. And now they’re in even more debt, asking for even more of my money just to continue to ruin the last shred of class that this once great town has left. I’m going to vote for Randall Williams… he’ll spend the least so he’ll attempt to stall the city’s constant descent into the abyss. If Nancy is elected, I’m moving to Johnston County.

Billie Redmond has run a successful business for over 25 years and has been involved in numerous community projects.  She is a strong and proven leader.  She has said she will be Raleigh’s number one salesman, and she will!  She has a vision for Raleigh and has the commitment to see it through.
    She’s got my vote!

Charlie (aka Will4NCSU), it appears you have way too much time on your hands. Maybe you need one of those jobs that Billie Redmond will bring to Raleigh as Mayor. And I do have a clue what I am talking about, thank you.  Billie Redmond is clearly the best candidate for Raleigh Mayor.

Nah, I’ve got one. Thanks anyways (FYI, it takes very little time to type up trolling comments. And you’re commenting on this article too, so where does that leave us?). You’re still not responding to the point that Billie Redmond has ZERO experience in government… let alone experience on the Raleigh City Council. You also don’t seem to be aware that Nancy McFarlane also has business experience, as she owns her own business (MedPro Rx). Success with MedPro Rx earned her the title of “Top Woman in Business” in the Triangle in 2009 and 2010 (over Billie Redmond, might I add). If that wasn’t enough, after being elected, McFarlane served on on committees for city planning and economic development.

So yeah, clearly McFarlane only cares about increasing the power of government and impeding economic growth. And yeah, having no experience in government means Billie Redmond is FAR more qualified, would be FAR more successful in implementing policy and would be FAR more successful in attracting jobs to the triangle (rolls eyes).

It seems to me that there’s a fundamental conflict of interest in having someone who’s a major player in the commercial real-estate industry holding the top job in Raleigh. (Redmond is president of Coldwell Banker Commercial TradeMark Properties.) So many of the critical issues that come before council relate to real-estate and development. How can Redmond possibly play the role of neutral arbiter when so many of her friends and colleagues—not to mention her own company—have such a big financial stake?
