In recent international design competition “What If New York City,“ a panel jury, including internationally renowned star-chitect Enrique Norton, selected ten winning entries; four from New York, one from Denmark, Portugal, Canada, and Boston…. and two from Raleigh. One of the winning Raleigh-based teams (entry entitled “Threading Water”) included David Hill, Assistant Professor of Architecture at NC State’s College of Design; Nelson Tang, designer with PBC+L; and Laura Garofalo, who is a new architecture faculty member at the College of Design; Henry Newell and Megan Casanega. The other Raleigh-based team included Darrell Mayer, with New City Design Group, and Elizabeth Kolepp-Mayer.
The premise of the competition is a hypothetical scenario where New York City is devastated by a category 5 hurricane. Entries were judged on a range of criteria centered around architecture and its role in disaster relief.
