If you think you can’t swing a purse in downtown Raleigh without hitting a fashion show, well, you’re right. But this weekend promises to raise the stakes and bring Raleigh fashion to new heights. Raleigh Fashion Week kicks off tonight at 9pm at the Raleigh Convention Center downtown with Emerging Artists Night, featuring designers from NCSU’s School of Design and the College of Textiles. Three more shows are scheduled for this weekend. A (free) Friday afternoon show will feature local high school talent. Friday night is Men’s and Women’s Formal Wear. Saturday night is the main event, Strut 09, a televised show that will feature national designers with local roots. Overall, the events promise some exciting names in local and national fashion and will hopefully bestow some much-needed credibility on the growing fashion culture in Raleigh. Shows start each night at 9 pm at the Raleigh Convention Center. Ticket prices range from $10 to $100. For more information visit http://www.strut09.com.
