We mentioned back in January, that Buckhead Saloon had closed in the Warehouse District and was possibly turning into a “hip hop club”. Now, it looks like we have a bit more proof that this is indeed in the case…but they are calling it an upscale urban night club. This craigslist posting states that they are hiring and “set to open the second week of March”.
We also have reason to believe that it will be called Raleigh Live, not to be confused with Raleigh Downtown Live, and will be run by a promotions group related to the owners of Buckhead Saloon.

Upscale, right…. more like cheesy, generic and out of business in 2 yrs.
If the d-bags don’t have a bar of their own to hang out at, they are going to hang out at your bar, so be happy.
I hope by ‘hip-hop’ they mean ‘dance club’ for all.
yea i hope it will be an upscale hip hop club that will be catered to people of all races not just minorities. now that would be whatsup right there. i would go check that joint out myself. i love diversity!
I live around the corner from this place and I have no problem with any type of club going in there. But, what is with all of these places (Cashmere, Noir, Raleigh Live, etc etc) that feel the need to go on about how “upscale” they are? Every announcement is so generic, how they’re “decadent,” “luxurious,” have “sinfully good coctails.” It is almost insulting, like they think we are such hicks that we’ll flock to these places like zombies if they dangle some shiny shit in front of us.
Diddo CF. It is just a reason not to go there, besides, is a $15 cocktail all that better then a $5 cocktail?
Arthur: Is Belvedre better than aristocrat?
if you don’t think so, then no a 5 dollar and a 15 dollar cocktail wouldn’t make a difference to you..
I think it is funny that gd typed “BelveDRE.”
yes typos are hilarious.
Using the word “upscale” is the same phenomenon as “classy”: if you use the word to describe something, it most likely is not.
Typos aren’t usually hilarious, I just thought that Belve-Dre in the context of a hip-hop bar was funny.
I know I’ll miss it:

LOL, that picture is from Buckhead Charlotte, not Raleigh
(Although that pose definitely would not have been out of place at Raleigh.)
What do I know? I think Raleigh Times is “Upscale” and I’m there twice a week! LMAO! Love that place!
I think another night club, urban or otherwise, smack in the middle of a wannabee big city condo boom makes perfect sense for Raleigh! I mean why would anyone want to put useful things like an express grocery (HT Express?), or maybe some not open past 8pm things (drug store, Target lite, etc.) in place??? Oh, wait, I forgot…downtown Raleigh is only for drinking, not living!
Clyde, Why do YOU think there is no “HT Express” or “Target lite” in downtown Raleigh? Do you think that the decision makers at Harris Teeter and Target and Food Lion and Walgreens have just never THOUGHT of putting a store in downtown Raleigh? There are reasons there are none of these shopping options. I’m so sick of hearing people complain about not having a downtown grocery! The same people that complained about NOT having one are the ones that DIDN’T patronize Capital City. It WILL come…When it is economically viable for the store owners and/or stockholders.
Agreed what with Micah said. If you honestly think that bigger chains have not considered the downtown market already you’re fooling yourself. If the population and foot traffic could support it, there would be something like a Harris Teeter there.
It definitely does not help the situation when Harris Teeter sees that a place like Capital City failed and before that closed a few times. That doesn’t make it look good for a major grocery chain to invest in retrofitting a space for a store just to see it close shortly thereafter.
I seriously thought the pricing model was not in line with volume buyers. I talked with other downtown business owners/investors and most agreed. We opted not to open a kiosk in Cap City just for that reason. The anchoring of a large market retailer would give the area retail credibility. I do agree with you that a ‘buy local’, co-op will come and be stable. However it usually happens after a well known branded store enters the area.
I’ve actually investigated the ‘idea’ with Delhaize Group. The square foot pricing is the hold up, not the people to shop there, etc. You’d actually be surprised, and a bit disappointed, to hear what “decision makers” outisde of Raleigh have to say (read my original post for a clue).
Someone needs to open a TJ McPickleShitters.
You are runining your bustiness. If you truly want Raleigh Live to succeed, you will raise your age limit. You’re in one of the best spots in Raleigh, and you’ve already been on the news for somebody beating a cop. Raise the age limit, market that, and watch how your paper come.
