Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker Endorses Nancy McFarlane as Successor

Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker has come out publicly today with an official endorsement of who he'd like to see succeed him to push Raleigh forward for the next two years. His decision? Raleigh City Council Member and Independent Nancy McFarlane.
Mayor Meeker decided not to run for a sixth term as Raleigh's mayor and left the door open for three candidates (Nancy McFarlene, Billie Redmond and Randall Williams) to step in to take his place. We are assuming that this will push McFarlene ahead of the other two candidates in the polls and predictions for the upcoming election.
The mayoral election is in just eight days (next Tuesday, October 11th) and early voting has already begun.

Before Charles Meeker became mayor of Raleigh, this was a city I, well, kinda liked…but didn’t quite feel the love for it that I do now. Growth was concentrated on the suburban fringes and the urban core was decaying & neglected.
Under Meeker’s 10 years of forward-thinking leadership—-and with the help of city councilors like Stephenson and McFarlane among others—-this city has definitely transformed into a jewel of the southeast.
If Nancy McFarlane is the best next thing to another Meeker term we can get, then I say Raleigh cannot afford to not elect her. Any of the other candidates would likely reverse a good deal of the progress we’ve made here. -

I agree completely. Except that I didn’t live here 10 years ago, but one of the reasons I move here is because of what Raleigh has become and is becoming.

I arrived in 2003. Back then, there was no reason to go downtown. Now I live near downtown and try to spend as much time there as I am able. The direction we are going is great.

If Charles meeker endorsed Nancy McFarlane, she has my vote. Mayor Charles meeker is a good Mayor, hate to see him go. I’m sure Nancy McFarlane will do just as well, as Mayor Charles Meeker, good luck with the election !

Mayor Charles Meeker could have been mayor for as long as he desired. I knew Charles Meeker before he became Raleigh’s mayor and he certainly is a man with a good heart and strong mind… the type of individual who is rewarded with eternal progress in all they endeavor. Raleigh’s greatest mayor, one so blessed that he determined when he’d gone his distance. Let’s not forget his family who has been there with him every step of the way. I’m sure I speak for most when I say, the best of luck and continued fortune in the years ahead for the Charles Meeker and family.
