In a swift move, the Raleigh City Council has voted 7-1 in favor of making North Hills an official Historic District. The vote comes just on the tail end of the conversation about the Depot District being dissed by its residents. “With the addition of the new AT&T store, the annual bikini contests at Fox and Hound, Christmas tree lighting ceremony, and that swanky new shoe store, North Hills is quickly becoming part of Raleigh’s 21st century history and we must recognize that” one council woman said. “It’s architecture will define Raleigh for generations to come” she said.

The lone “nay” voter on the council voiced his disapproval only because the circulator bus doesn’t stop there. “If I can’t get from the capitol building to the Stadium 14 Cinema on a hybrid bus, it’s not worth my time or our historic designation.” The council declined to comment about how Target fits into the conversation of past and future Raleigh.
