Raleigh Rickshaw Joins Forces with Greenway Transit

There has been a lot of talk lately about gas prices, alternative transportation and how to live a healthy transit lifestyle in Raleigh lately. Raleigh Rickshaw, one of the driving forces in green transportation in downtown Raleigh, has announced that they will be partnering with Greenway Transit to create an even greener transportation system for tourists and residents.

Raleigh Rickshaw only started its operations just over a year ago and can now be seen on any busy street in the downtown region, from Glenwood South to City Market. New rickshaws riders hit the streets of Raleigh almost weekly. Greenway’s success wasn’t so immediate. After starting the Chapel Hill-based business in 2006 and merging with “a biofuels-based transportation company”, the company had a setback when its founders moved from the area. Therefore, the marriage of these two progressive companies seems a fitting solution for an area looking towards the future of alternative transportation in an urban setting.

Greenway also has biofuel-powered vehicles that it uses for major events in the area (weddings, conferences, etc).  These should come in handy in downtown with the Raleigh Convention Center opening in a few weeks. Let’s hope Raleigh Rickshaw doesn’t stop here! I see a full takeover of downtown transportation on the horizon.

“We are excited to bring our different skills together to achieve our long term mutual goals. Our model is working in Downtown Raleigh, and look forward to applying it to Greenways resources in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. this partnership helps put more viable green transportation on the roads now”.

Greenway Transit and Raleigh Rickshaw Co. will streamline operations to make their rides more available to residents and visitors in the Raleigh and Chapel Hill/Carrboro communities.  After an initial splash in the summer of 2006, Greenway’s rickshaw availability merged with a biofuels-based transportation company started by The Forest Foundation and Carolina Biodiesel.  After its founders moved out of town for school and work, ridership dropped as administration and overhead costs increased. This new partnership with the The Raleigh Rickshaw Company will help Greenway get its fleet back on the street for regular service.

Could it be .... the lack of littering on their site, and the fact they don’t have a kick-ass linda craft or york Real Estate section…...
probably not, but it keeps bringing me back and Jedidiah is on it.

    Brotha.
