Raleigh vs. Charlotte: This Guy is Giving Us a Bad Name

Marketing shill or not, Kris Hixson, the creator of the “Raleigh>Charlotte” stickers, is not the man I want speaking for Raleigh. Take his request for your reason why Raleigh is better than Charlotte: “Don’t just put some dumb reason like… Stupid There. Just say something .. impor.. Just say something Smart. Er.. Just Think.”
Between rambles Kris is promising to bring more videos of people professing their love for Raleigh. Take Jason Adamo’s love ballad in name of the cause, with his reasons being “the women here are so much more beautiful,the musicians are more talented”:
Yeah I guess it would have nothing to do with our intellectual community, the massive university, our great parks, quick access to the beach or all the Fortune jobs.

Yeah, there are 100 reasons why Raleigh is better. A few of my favorites are: an awesome blogger community, a better economy, less crime, NewRaleigh.com , Wayne Sutton, 30threads, tech, tech, tech, and my absolute fav is (I would have to find the article) yahoo named Charlotte as #9 on worst cities to live in for the ENTIRE US!!!!!!!!! mainly quoted on that article was the crime rate, and unemployment.

I am from Charlotte and I can tell you the Triangle as a whole is much more dynamic. Charlotte is ok but seems to be much more provincial and uppity, plus the music scene there outright sucks.

I like both Raleigh and Charlotte, but for different reasons. A friendly rivalry between the two cities can be beneficial and fun, but Kris Hixson’s not going about things the right way. Raleigh Wide Open isn’t the venue to be taking a shot at Charlotte. It’s about Raleigh, and it should stay about Raleigh. Honestly, I think Hixson’s just being a dork, and it’s a shame, because his actions reflect poorly on all of us.

Is there one fish out there that is smart enough not to take the bait, if you are actually from Raleigh or Charlotte you know the politics behind this, good ole fashion rivalary. Being from Raleigh, it is obvious why people think Charlotte is better than Raleigh, sheer size, NFL and NBA. I pull for the Panthers and Bobcats, because they represent our state as a whole, but I never find anyone from Charlotte with a Hurricanes Stanely Cup sticker. Point being each city has its advantages. If you removed the NBA and NFL Charlotte would be Fayetteville, with a couple less Strip Clubs

I saw a funny shirt this past weekend downtown..
it had the Raleigh skyline on it and underneath it, it read:
“It’s not quite New York City
It’s not quite Mayberry
But thankfully its not Charlotte!” -
