Raleigh Wide Open 5 and Cherry Bounce Date Set
Advertise on NR

The date and some of the activities for Raleigh Wide Open was announced today by Mayor Charles Meeker. The event will run from 11am-11pm on Saturday July 31st. This will also be the same day that this year’s Cherry Bounce will take place. This will be the first year that RWO will not coincide with the opening of a major downtown public project. It’s also the first time the event has been in the middle of Summer rather than early Fall. More information on both coming soon but here is what the Mayor announced today:

Mayor Meeker said that one of Raleigh’s newest yet most popular traditions – Raleigh Wide Open – will fill up Downtown on July 31 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. with:

A parade;
Four stages filled with more than 20 national, regional and local acts;
A beer and wine tent;
A kids zone with blow-up slides and a Carolina Hurricanes interactive area;
More than 50 food, arts and non-profits tents; and,
Fireworks.

    Hmm…would have been nice to move it out to Hillsborough St. for the reopening of that…Oh well.

    Don’t these people know it’s hot as hell at the end of July?!

    Ranting aside I’m sure I’ll be there.

    I seem to recall that Cherry Bounce was the Bud Light of its day?

    Kind of a weird compulsion to hold outdoor events in the hottest part of summer, here in the South.  “Mad dogs & Englishmen,” etc.

    So, are we in the South just supposed to go inside in June and not hold any outdoor events all summer?

    Uhhm, it’s NC, it’s going to be hot in the summer…  Just means better beer-drinking weather as far as I’m concerned…

    Haha, you people will complain about anything.  This place is starting to turn into the WRAL Golo comments.

    Complaining about the July heat, oh man.  Wear a damn hat and sunscreen.  Heaven forbid you leave your house and breath fresh air.

    It’s the south!  It gets hot in the summer.  Don’t like it then move up north.

    The July sun is bound to fail.  I don’t know why the sun even bothers.  The only people out in the sun are outsider douchebags on Glenwood South.  I wouldn’t be caught dead in the sun.

    It’s the South!  Our good seasons are spring and fall.  Only Yankees think summer is for outdoor events.

    Our good seasons? We’re lucky to have four, actually. And I seem to recall it being 90 degrees in May - the other day.

    The Raleigh Wide Open link in the article goes to RWO 4 which was sept 2009. Is there one for RWO 5?
