The yearly Summer and Fall street festival circuit returns to downtown. Returning for its fifth year, Raleigh Wide Open 5 will go down on Saturday, July 31st on Fayetteville and adjacent streets in Downtown Raleigh. This year, the day long festival, which runs from 11am-11pm, has an extreme sports theme and will feature BMX, Motorcross, a Fire Circus, a Beer and Wine Tasting Festival, tons of local vendors and 21 bands on four stages (oh, and Barenaked Ladies).

The Cherry Bounce Fest will again be a part of the festivities that day as well as Thursday and Friday. While we still wish that the reopening of Hillsborough Street (which will be happening very soon, September 25th) was the main focus of this year’s RWO, this looks like another great day full of fun and pedestrian traffic for downtown businesses.

Yeah - I am excited to go to this (been to 3 of the last 4 RWO) but am dissapointed to see they are trying to claim the Barenaked Ladies as part of RWO 5 when it is a stand alone concert that you have to pay for. It really isn’t a part of RWO. They do have the fireworks to end the event but it is strange not to have a headlining act end the event on stage on the south end of Fayetteville Street.

In communist Russia, the band pays YOU.

Personally, I would either go to RWO or I won’t. The fact that the BNL is charging admission for a separate event that has nothing to do with RWO won’t make a difference.

    But that’s just me.
