Rally to Demand No War on Iran

If you count yourself among the 62% of Americans who disapprove of the way our government executed and continues to (mis)manage the situation in Iraq, you should go down to the capitol building this Saturday, Aug. 2 at 2:00 p.m. Raleigh is one of 65 cities hosting the national event: Rally to Demand No War on Iran, US out of Iraq!

Local organizers Ben Carroll from the N.C. Coalition to Stop War on Iran is listed as the contact for the event, though if you facebook you can also hook up with that group. Now is your chance to make your views seen and heard. Raleigh, represent!

I was at the huge DC protest before the US government invaded Iraq.  These people will not listen to you even if you are 99% of the population.  They will simply have the complicit media report that there were “around 30k protesters” when in fact it was upwards of 150k (in the case of the DC protest, a protest in Raleigh will likely land you on page 403-D in the N&O;)

These resource wars are a done deal, nothing “nonviolent” you do is going to make a bit of difference, and “hopey” isn’t going to change anything either.

Good to see you haven’t lost your optimism. grin

You do make a difference.  You may not get the immediate result you desire, but YOU do make a difference.

We make the stand because it’s the right thing to do.  We have to be the change we want to see in the world.

Perhaps you are just needing to vent.  I understand.  Get it out.  However, if you still choose to be super-cynical, hopeless, and defeatist, then please do so in the privacy of your own mind.  Suggesting, even supporting, that others shouldn’t get involved is EXACTLY what gave us Bush, twice.

And YOUR marching in DC is why that tide is turning.  Don’t give up.  We need you.

From talking with some military personnel of late, it sounds like conflict with Iran is inevitable (and according to them) completely warranted. They say Iran (in particularly their “prez”) needs to be stopped before he can do some serious damage.

Serious damage to who?  Israel? Our oil supply?  They photoshopped an extra missle for crying out loud.  And what are we going to do? Install another dictator?

“These people” probably didn’t listen to 150K screaming marchers b/c their other constituents were likely busy acting within a more effective means of communication with elected representatives—emailing and meeting with them to discuss their ideas and concerns. Marching, beating drums, and screaming recycled cliched chants from the 60’s makes you appear naive and spoiled to the majority of Americans and does not draw more people to your cause.

Don’t worry; this war won’t happen until October!  I believe it’s scheduled 21 days before voting day but I haven’t received my Karl Rove calendar this month and can’t be sure.  In his defense, I believe he’s busy facing contempt charges.

Oct 14th it is! Leaves plenty of time to arrange the Rally to demand Women’s rights in Iran, Rally to demand Homosexual rights in Iran, Rally to demand an end to Antisemitism in Iran, and maybe more.

I saw these folks on the news tonight. Looked like about 15 or 16 to me. I noted one dude even wanted us to get out of Afghanistan.

I’m sure the million or so slaves freed by the Civil WAR would have been glad these bleeding hearts weren’t around in the early 1860s.

(Actually they were. See “McClellan for President 1864” for details. History has remembered him and his followers just as kindly as it will the 15 or 16 standing out in the 97 degree temps today)
