Rapid Fitness to Replace Peak Fitness

Details are thin, but we have been informed that Raleigh’s Rapid Fitness has leased the Peak Fitness space and will start upfitting the space and be open later this year. Peak Fitness closed a couple of weeks ago, pissing off lots of customers.

Update 6-26

We got some more info on Rapid Fitness.  They are starting presales this weekend at the Peak location, they also have a location on Glenwood headed west.  Rates will be:

$29 a month for old peak members ($20 more than what many were paying) with no enrollment and no dues until they open.  The other location will be open to them until the peak location is ready.
$34 a month for access to all three locations including the North Ridge location

The downtown location will open this fall probably around October. They also operate 62 gyms across the North East.

Anyone want to take bets on how long this one will be open before it closes?  lol

Hah, maybe we should call it “rapid fire” fitness for taking over the space so quickly. In any event, I can’t say that I am disappointed; I would have loved to see retail, but at the same time I feel like I have been constructively evicted from enjoying my gym membership at Lifestyle Family Fitness, which agreed to take on all the Peak members. It’s been a madhouse over there ever since Peak closed.

I feel for the Lifestyle members at peak hours who suddenly saw an influx, but you know, friends who’ve been members there say it was pretty much empty most of the time, which can’t have been good for business. And it’s still pretty empty at non-peak hours. I’ve gone Tuesday and Thursday nights and Sunday afternoon and there’s no crowding, an empty pool and plenty of machines available.

That said, if Rapid actually offers former Peak members a discount like they say they will on their site, and looks minimally decent as a gym, I’ll be going there; it’s just too convenient a location. So, hold on, Lifestyle members; you’ll probably have your nearly empty gym back soon.

    Rapid Gell is key.

I don’t think it’s fair to pay the rate that I pay to work out in a nice clean gym, then have all the Peak folks come over with their $10 per month contracts.  Now if if I start seeing broken equipment and filth, I’ll have to find somewhere else to go, which is why I left Peak for Lifestyle in the first place.

Selena- 10?  I have been paying three times that.  Are you perhaps confused with Planet Fitness?  They’re 10/month.

the $29 a month that rapid is saying they will charge is not $20 more than what most peak members were paying.  if i get $29 a month for a nice gym that is super convenient to me i will be happy.(but happier if it was cheaper) smile

I was not a happy camper when peak closed,bt I will gladly welcome the re-open of rapid, lifestyle is a nice gym bt out of the way for me,I love the convience of getting off work and getting to my gym in a minute,so thanks rapid fitness

Rapid Fitness made a quality decision in regards to getting the two locations that PEAK was put out of because THEY ARE GREAT LOCATIONS!

Members get a great quality facility, new equipment, excellent group fitness classes (if you like that stuff, at NO EXTRA CHARGE!!!), etc.

Talk to the members that are currently enrolled. I used to be “just a member”. Loved the place so much I wanted to work for the company.

My 10 year old LOVES the kid’s mma/kickboxing classes. Best gym I’ve ever been a member of.

I love Rapid Fitness! Never crowded, and great rooms for special interest training. Great trainers too. Great new equipment… I like it way better than Peak, and the location is the best because of the open windows, and the feeling of being up high as opposed to the dark artificially lit Lifestyles.

I have never seen a gym as nice and clean as Rapid is! I know that there are country club like gyms like Rapid, but never at the price of $29. This gym is amazing
