Austin who? There is no more Creative Class. It has now been renamed The Raleigh Class after Richard Florida was elected Mayor of Raleigh in a landslide election yesterday. Florida, author of The Rise of The Creative Class, Flight of the Creative Class, The Creative Class Gone Wild, Go Go Gadget Creative Class and the seminal Is the Creative Class Half Full or Empty, decided to run for mayor when he heard about Raleigh being at the top of everyone’s Best Of… lists. “The city is so far beyond every other city in the nation” Florida said. “What other city in the nation do you know that sells moonshine in a bar, has a tree on the side of a building that shimmers, and has Everclear play for free in downtown? Wait, I just used Everclear and moonshine in the same sentence when describing why I liked Raleigh. Whoops.”

Florida has vowed to add 4 more circulator buses for downtown that run on wind turbines, create a pick up soccer league in Halifax Mall, install Smart Car parking on Fayetteville Street, and start a SXSE festival in the capital city that runs for one full day.

When asked about his morning job, Florida declined to comment. Congrats to our new mayor.
