UPDATE: It looks like The Third Place should be open again soon, according to the above photo by Ambermae.
New Raleigh has received a few unconfirmed reports that The Third Place Coffeehouse in Five Points has been padlocked with a tax notice. An attempt to reach the shop by phone resulted only in an answering machine. Hopefully this is only a temporary issue as it would be a huge loss for Five Points.

You can do it Dave! We all believe in you man!
Good luck, David!! I’m with Jonathan - I believe in you and you can get through this!
Hope things get worked out. Third Place is one of Raleigh’s coolest coffee shops. Good luck Dave!
The hood isn’t the same w/o Third Place. Fingers crossed, David!
Third Place is our neighborhood’s heart. Rise like a quad shot Phoenix of soy half caff extra hot steam Dave!
Pay your taxes and this kind of stuff will quit happening.
I grew up in Raleigh and have very fond memories of Third Place. I met some of my best friends there, and it was always a central gathering place for a wide array of people. I had my coming out party there, and really learned a lot about myself and the world through the conversations I have had there and the things I have read there. I would hate to see it go.
Good luck to them and I hope they reopen soon.
One thing I’ve always liked about Raleigh is that, unlike some other big cities, we’re not over-run with tons of Starbucks on every corner. Our city does pretty well, usually, supporting independent coffee houses like Third Place, Helios, Morning Times, Global Village, Cup-A-Joe, and so on. And Third Place is one of the oldest, so we definitely hope they’re back soon!
I want to thank everyone for all the support and kindness that has been shown to me! I’m sorry for the inconvenience and we’ll be open for business, as usual, tomorrow, Friday March 26th at 6 am. Thanks for your support and come celebrate our grand re-opening!
OOPS! Third Place is open for business tomorrow, Friday FEBRUARY 26th at 6 am. Come celebrate!
Hey Dave, why didn’t you call your employees to let them know you are re-opening?
