Sahara Cafe brings the mature atmosphere of Middle Eastern cafes to Raleigh. Located on Peace Street in the old Steak Out Building, the business stands in stark contrast from the militant, student-patroned bars on Hillsborough, Sahara has lots of comfortable seating, inside and out, and a relaxed quiet atmosphere with a decent selection of coffees, teas and a shisha assortment to taste in their many Hooka pipes. Full review coming next week.

Looks good. But what’s with the TV screens? I hope they are playing trippy ambiance visuals and not sporting events.
“Cafe” - do they have food? I looked online but had no luck.
As of opening, they did not have food. That may be changing this week.
I agree with Acree, I wish bars didn’t have so many frickin TVs to suck the life out of places. TVs are the biggest distraction, but that’s another argument.
The low cushion seating won’t keep people hanging out very long but I like the big spacious patio looking onto Peace Street.
TVs in bar/resturants are evil. They do end the converation!
This is a great place to grab a nice cup of Hot Cocoa as the days get colder and an apple flavored Hookah. This was my first time using a Hookah and the staff provided great advice, ettiqutte and education for newbies such as myself. If you are looking to be exposed to authentic middle eastern culture and have a great ending to a date and enjoy conversation this is the place.
Sahara was an enjoyable experience. I’ve been to hookah bars all over the east coast and their prices are VERY decent. The TV’s played the normal Mediterranean/Arabian music videos you usually find but it wasn’t blasting and I found conversation unhindered. Even toward closing they didn’t kick us out and continued to give us excellent service. Coffee was delicious and there is a large variety. Didn’t get any food but there is a small selection of cheaply priced pies and hummus dishes. Definitely a great place to get desert. Bring cards!
I wish they served food. I work a few doors down and don’t smoke or drink coffee. I’d love to have a place within walking distance with a totally unique middle eastern flair (Neomonde is always so crowded).
Service could be a lot better. You are mostly ignored if you are caucasian though.
I hope Sahara shows “World Cup 2010” South Africa. I am excited to see with friends.
