The Joel Lane Museum House is in need of your help. As part of their Save-a-Landmark campaign, Hampton Hotels will restore one North Carolina landmark, and YOU get to vote which one they pick. We need everyone from Raleigh to take one second to vote for the 1770 home of the founder of this fair city. Click here to vote.
It’s actually a pretty cool program that Hampton Hotels has put together. So far, some of the spots they have restored are the World’s Largest Shoe House in Hallam, PA, and the World’s Largest Cuckoo Clock in Wilmot, OH. Click here to see those images. Here’s hoping Joel Lane’s house has a chance.

I liked your site.
Sorry, but the Joel Lane House shouldn’t be a priority. I’m glad it’s in Raleigh, as it doesn’t hurt to have some history, and the special functions they have are always a nice addition to the neighborhood. Still, has anyone plunked down the $3 dollars for the tour? It’s pretty pathetic. They actually had a metal fold down chair next to the supposedly historic antique furniture in one room. That extra house that serves as the kitchen? Yeah, the tourguide admits that was an old structure obtained from elsewhere in North Carolina, then put at the JLH to serve as a kitchen. Those types of things really sabotage the historic nature of the JLH. Kudos to Hampton Hotels for the program, but they should focus on a site with more historic accuracy.
