Vinyl.  It’s a cyclical industry.  Some years magazines rave about it being the hippest musical item since the iPod.  Other years they scream its death is imminent.  Depending on the genre of music and the country in which you reside, vinyl is either a hit or a miss in popularity. Downtown Raleigh has a handful of shops where you can peruse through new or used vinyl including Father and Son Antiques on Hargett St., FM Sounds and Goods on Glenwood Ave., and Nice Price Books/Reader’s Corner on Hillsborough Street.  Another great location in downtown, and also on Hillsborough Street, is the infamous Schoolkids Records.  Behind it’s counter you will find some of the names that litter local band lineups and there are usually a handful of people in store at anytime during the day.  Schoolkids puts on great live in-store performances almost weekly which are usually packed.  Today, they have put a call out stating they are “revamping” their vinyl section and are in need of more and will pay more than the next guy.  Or so they say…...

Hello Record People!

We here at the Raleigh location of Schoolkids Records are revamping our vinyl section, new and used.  To help the quality of our selection we are going to be a little more generous in giving out cash or credit for your used vinyl.  If you think you’ve got some good stuff that you just don’t have the room for, bring it by 2712-100 Hillsborough St.  Soul, old rock, new rock, indie, hip hop and rap, metal, experimental, electronic, folk, psych, reggae… If it’s something we can sell, we can make a deal!

Thanks and see you soon!

Vinyl rules.  Vinyl requires more interaction with its user, which in turn deepens the relationship between the two and makes it more valuable.  I shake my head whenever I hear about vinyl “going downhill” and that its “old”. Please.  When music is mastered and pressed on to CD, the sound is compressed.  Sound is not compressed when its on vinyl and yes, there IS a difference if you got a good soundsystem.  Vinyl creates an audio atmosphere that is second to none.

No No Thanks to mp3 players, iPods, and the like.  Most mp3 files people listen to are not even CD audio quality (even that new Radiohead album.)

I’ll listen to my music on the Hi-Fi.
