Seaboard ACE Hardware Expands Kitchen Store

Seaboard ACE Hardware Expands Kitchen Store

Cooks know that central Raleigh has lacked a good kitchen store for a long time.  So lovers of kitchen tools and bakeware will be glad to learn that ACE Hardware at Seaboard Station has expanded their kitchenwares section – now the largest retail offering of kitchen goods in central Raleigh.

In addition to all essential kitchen tools – graters, knives, whisks, spatulas, measuring cups, and the like – Seaboard ACE Hardware offers a wide assortment of handy gadgets from apple corers to orange zesters.  For tabletop, the store offers a new selection of attractive white porcelain bakeware, as well as quality glassware, serving pieces, and linens.

As a cook, I am thrilled to see a convenient selection of kitchen tools and tableware at a locally owned store right here in downtown Raleigh.

“We definitely saw a need for a downtown kitchen store, so we expanded our selection,” owner Bob King told me. “We hope to add even more variety in response to customer requests.”

Kitchen gadgets make great stocking stuffers (I snagged a ceramic “pie bird” for my mom, who likes to bake).   And, as a full-service hardware store, Seaboard ACE is generally a great place to find last-minute gift ideas, with tons of handy stuff for home, workshop, and garden.

This really puts things into perspective.  Best place to buy kitchenware in Downtown Raleigh is Ace Hardware.  No offense Ace…but we’ve got a long way to go.

Anyone know what brands of plates they carry?

The restaurant supply store on S. Saunders always has good stuff. About a 2 min. ride out of downtown towards 40.

The plates ate BIA International “Cordon Bleu”.  Very nice quality sold by the piece.  You are right, Restaurant Supply does have “Restaurant” quality plates if that is what you are looking for.  These are nice quality, not disposable but not “Mall Store” prices either.

Khaner is spot on. United Restaurant Equipment is a local, family owned business that’s right down the road on S. Saunders St. and it’s been there for a long time (50 years?). They’ve got a fantastic selection of restaurant equipment and cooking supplies - basically everything that has to do with food prep on any scale. They’ve also been super nice and helpful whenever I’ve shopped there.

No, it’s not in the trendy Seaboard area or technically in “central Raleigh” but at a measley 4 miles from this Ace Hardware, I find it hard to believe that anyone who lives in Raleigh with a true interest in cooking wouldn’t have found it. Yeah it’s great that this Ace is expanding, but before we pat this guy on the back too much, what about some support for a long lasting local business?

URE is great, and I’ll go there whenever I need something for work, but I’m not gonna complain about another store close to home that’s got kitchen equipment.  Professional kitchen equipment isn’t necessarily better than or suited to home kitchen usage, btw.

Now imagine if URE carried paint, nails, and hammers, then we’d have an ol’ fashioned retail feud! Just like when Capital City Grocery tried to run Kroger out of town…
How dare a hardware store diversify.  Message to retailers: You better be what people expect you to be or we’ll be forced to snark you into bankruptcy.

Seaboard ACE Hardware is not trying to compete with URE.  They are great folks and deserve our patronage.  But there is also a need for a “one stop” shop in our area.  We are not a Wal-Mart or a speciality shop, just a variation of the old General Store with free parking in downtown.

Some of the posts in these comments are just hilarious.  United Restaurant Equipment is a fine store and Raleigh is fortunate to have it.  But I can guarantee Ace isn’t out to compete with that.
For one, when someone thinks “grandma wants a cheesecake pan for xmas”, they don’t think about restaurant equipment supply store as being in that category.  (Just the name of the company sounds like it serves commercial endeavours…ie, restaurants.)  More likely, they’re gonna head up to north Raleigh for Williams-Sonoma, Crate & Barrel or a department store like Macy’s or Sears.
What Ace is doing here is offering people below the beltline a closer choice that we don’t already have…with much better parking and less crowds than say, Crabtree.  They already make a much more convenient alternative to Lowe’s & Home Depot, by the way.  (I got my dad a power tool for xmas there for a better deal than Lowes, and with much better service and shorter lines at the cash register!)  This kitchen section addition just makes me like them even more!

First, what’s up with all the spam? Although, the “reckon” in the comments are pretty funny.

Nonetheless, I can’t say enough good things about the store and the kitchen selection.

I stopped in on the 24th (yes, super late shopper, I know), and was VERY pleasantly surprised at the prices (I anticipated the kitchen selection being over-priced), but they weren’t! AND since everything I bought was included in their “holiday” selection, I was even more thrilled at checkout when the total charge was 30% less than I anticipated.

I’ll be back. Over and over again! (And apparently, with Tank and Delta in tow knowing they’re pet-friendly, too.)

Regarding the spam: Newraleigh, it helps not at all that your “contact us” page goes to a 404.

The comments are half the fun of coming here. I know you say you’re working on a solution for the future and I DO appreciate it. In the meantime, though, the least you could do is have someone - a volunteer (I could do it while I’m reading the threads, and so could you) - get rid of the existing spam comments. Fourteen of them in this short thread alone!

    You have the power.
