Bob Geary talks about the Sierra Club’s Endorsement’s of a mostly incumbent slate in a post on Citizen yesterday.
In the at-large Council race in Raleigh, where the top two finishers will win seats, the SC’s Capital Group endorsed only incumbent Russ Stephenson. In other words, the enviros kept their second vote in their pockets rather than endorse the other incumbent, Mary-Ann Baldwin, or one of the two challengers, either Lee Sartain or Champ Claris.
He also notes that the Sierra Club made no endorsements in District C. Read more on Citizen
Lunsford Lane also has been dissecting the ballot also. In this August 18th post he gets conspiracy deep, but its probably not far from the truth- the Democratic party gunning for Crowder? Jerome Goldberg, another District D challenger to Crowder doesn’t even live in Raleigh and was denied the opportunity to run by the Wake County Board of elections. Goldberg has been labeled a slum lord:
Goldberg does not live in our fair city, but he does work in City Hall as an electrical inspector, and he owns several low-end rental units here, most in District D where he caters to students at NC State University. On July 17, Goldberg went to the Board of Elections, changed his voter registration to an apartment he owns near the university, and filed his candidacy for City Council, District D. He claims that a couple of weeks later he moved to yet another of his rentals near the university. His wife continues to live at their home outside of the City.
Goldberg is represented by the high power Charlotte Lawyer Gerry Meek as they had appealed the BOE decision. And even though the appeal was denied, Lane says he will still be on the ballot and that will likely hurt Crowder. Below The Belt Line for more.
