Sixth Edition Of Great 8

Thanks go out to David Menconi for compiling the multimedia extravaganza known as Great 8. Thanks also go out to commentors nate and Billy Reed, who helped us name six of the bands in the Great 8 Spoiler. Don’t forget about the showcase at Local 506 on February 13th. You can also catch Lonnie Walker tonight and Violet Vector & The Lovely Lovelies on Saturday night at the WKNC Double Barrel Benefit.

I love all these bands and the triangle’s music scene!
I am however amazed at how much reverence people show
to a complete arrogant, self-centered, egotist that calls himself David Menconi.
If anyone has ever talked to Menconi about music you really get a taste
of this guys complete contempt for most local bands in the triangle today.
Truly sad. A legend in his own mind!

I’m truly stoked for all who were chosen in this year’s Great 8. You deserve it!!!
However in the 20 years I’ve been in the triangle I have always been disappointed with Menconi’s
bias, assumptions, masking (lack) of real musical knowledge and lazy critiques.
I’m glad he mentions these bands at least.

    Wow, Imon—bitter much?

Don’t know what your beef is, but what-freakin’-ever.

imon—make up your mind. if the bands deserve the recognition, then menconi obviously knows his stuff. good bands rarely get the attention of biased, ignorant, and lazy critics. if the bands menconi chose suck, then maybe you’ve got a point. which is it?

i’m guessing cricket sounds are what you hear when you try to get attention for your music. wait—just a guess—you have tried (and failed) to get attention from ... a certain biased, ignorant, and lazy critic? again—it’s just a guess.

nonetheless i applaud your logic, and thus i would like to point out that sheryl crow is biased, ignorant, and lazy when it comes to men. else she would obviously be on my arm, yes? what other conclusion could a reasonable person draw?

I’m hyped about this year’s great 8 also and looking forward to the show Friday, I’m even more hyped that the N&O and David take the time to so spectacularly showcase the locals. The local music subculture is overly fortunate to have legit pub’s promoting them. We owe David cheers not flames, Sheryl Crow would agree.
