It snows a couple of inches and the City of Oaks shuts down, becoming a no man’s land….except Raleigh Times and Oakwood Cemetery of course.

very nice job with the Snowbama
Its just a good idea for everyone to stay home and off the roads. Is much safer—-for me!!
I’m curious…what’s the deal with Raleigh Times on this website? Is it the newraleigh HQ?
It is to downtown Raleigh as the White Horse Tavern was to Greenwich Village in the 1950s
Amen Betsy.
150—Raleigh Times is just a bar/pub where 20 somethings go when they want to feel like they are part of something. There are better choices downtown with better food/drinks and alot less attitude.
I’m not 20-something & I love the Times. One of the great things about it is the diverse nature of the crowd.
Eh, you’re not finding a better bar with better food than Raleigh Times Arthur- that just ain’t true…
Ral Times is a great place, but there is a bit of wannabe hipster, plaid shirt and ironic moustache pretensiousness to some of the patrons.
So Arthur, what are these better choices? Want to make sure I haven’t overlooked a hidden gem in downtown Raleigh. And while you’re at the computer why don’t you look into updating that website of yours? Kinda thin.
what’s better than the brie and apple sanwich with pine nuts, toasted, at Morning Times?
or how about the pit BBQ nachos? yummmmm
This 40-something fan of the Raleigh Times thinks Arthur needs not only an attitude adjustment but also a good copy editor:
“More to come as I develop my informtion [sic] website.”
“Older gardens can be refreshed and renewed to better fit its [sic] suroundings [sic].”
Arthur, Arthur, Arthur. This is no way to represent yourself in public.
Leave Arthur alone. He has an opinon and he should be allowed to express it. You don’t have to start insulting his website. Stick to the subject. You people are all so negative. It makes me want to stop reading this blog.
For obvious reasons, and for some reasons not so obvious, I am partial to Moonlight Pizza and 101 Lounge. Moonlight was closed yesterday due to snow but typically it would be open.
101 Lounge and the 3 awesome upstairs’ TV’s provides a great smoke free place to watch political, sports, or any other events. Greg and Kevin’s live music is always worth watching.
Coffee from the hands of Dina is something to look for as well. As economic times worsen, nothing can beat the weekday specials from 101 and Moonlight.
101’s Grilled Cheese and Soup for 6 is a must- try for lunch.
Moonlight’s 2 slices and a soda for under 5 is even better.
As for variety - nothing beats Fin’s lunch as far as I am concerned. I would love to see Ashley do something on Fayetteville St. too! (perhaps a joint venture is worth exploring)
@ Al - everyone is entitled to their opinion of Arthur’s awful website. Their opinions are just as on topic and as positive as Arthur’s.
I think a lot of people stayed home yesterday to enjoy inauguration and play in the snow with their neighbors. There were lots of restaurants open yesterday…But it was a great day to cook a big pot of chili, have snowball fights, and to sit in front of a fire watching all the great festivities surrounding the new president! I personally think it was great that Raleigh did “shut down,” or at least that my office closed so I could have a snobama day!
The snonauguration day was great! In fact the festivities in DC drew a bigger television audience in Raleigh-Durham than in any other major TV market in the nation. Thanks Snow Miser!
Thanks Scoop and AL
Hey, hey. Don’t hate on my dying website made with the el-cheapo Microsoft office I made one night after a hearty dinner from The Oakwood Cafe. Links break faster than a bar can open and close on Glenwood! And with no spell check you’ll just have to deal with my typos and misspellings. Meet me at the Borough for a drink Saturday then I will take you on an appetizer tour of downtown!
I will begin to use Word to edit my post -NewRaleigh- is the best website for local news!!!!
