Not only are Wilco, The Avett Brothers, Duran Duran and Flock of Seagulls playing Koka Booth this Summer, but now Sound Tribe Sector 9 has been added to the excellent schedule. Looks like Koka Booth has an understanding of what the area wants in live summer music.
Sound Tribe is a 5-piece electronic jam band from Santa Cruz, California. They all play live instruments but involve a handful of sampling. They neatly fit somewhere between the ever popular Thievery Corporation and many of the organic jam bands like Widespread Panic. I got to see them last year at Austin City Limits under a hot sun and just a couple of hours later Gotan Project took the same stage at sundown. The two of these bands kept the crowd moving throughout the day. Sound Tribe don’t say much on stage, but they don’t have to, because the music speaks for itself. Umphrey’s McGee, who are also in the jam band loop, open the late July show. Expect a hot summer day but lots of dancing.
