Summer Starting Early at Downtown Amphitheater with Pretty Lights in April

Colorado based groove producer Derek Vincent Smith, aka Pretty Lights, will bring a live drummer with him for a night of electronic music to kick off the 2011 Spring and Summer concert series at the Downtown Raleigh Amphitheater. This is the first show announced but probably not the first show of the year. Not unlike the 18th Street Lounge sounds of Thievery Corporation or St. Germain and Sound Tribe Sector 9 (who played the Amphitheater last Summer), Pretty Lights creates a lounge groove vibe with his beats and visuals. Don't expect much from the onstage antics of the duo, but the music should lend itself to a sweat filled night of dancing on the lawn below the Shimmer Wall.

Pretty Lights plays on April 19th and tickets go on sale next week February 18th at LiveNation.com, Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion box office, Progress Energy Center Box office, Ticketmaster or charge by phone 800-745-3000.

Michael Menert and Paper Diamond will open the show.

I can’t help but feel this bodes well for an interesting, creative lineup for the amphitheater.

Glow stick marketers rejoice!  Last year’s STS9 show was small but HIGH energy.  This should be a good one!

Are beer and drinks from outside the amphitheater allowed to be brought in? Seems like fun.

Any word on bringing back Bud Light Downtown Live series in Moore Square or actually using the city plaza for Alive After 5?? Since the city blew the sponsorship with BudLight for last year trying to get naming rights, just wondering if they were going to get back the free events that bring in money to all the local businesses in downtown…
