Bill Thelen and members of the artist collective Team Lump have closed shop for the summer, leaving a noticeable gap in Raleigh’s First Fridays. However, the good folks of Team Lump were courteous enough to drop us a note sharing a TimeOut London review of their exhibit DIY Rapture on view at Cell in London.

Hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina, and boasting a changeable membership, artists’ collective Team Lump here takes aim at styles of American cultism. The trappings of these tend to get fetishised by artists; in ‘DIY Rapture’, though, they’re less rosily regarded, with intermittent suggestions of power structures replicating within supposedly freewheeling zones.

Lump will return for their annual benefit on August 22 and will open with work by Jerstin Crosby in September.

Folks take Lump for granted here sometimes, I think. But folks up and down the east coast and across the country know it’s something special. Awesome to see it get recognition in the UK, too.

Hopefully Team Lump can return with some Brits and work up a joint exhibit of some kind.
