It was only time before punk and electro combined to form a spastic collision of the two. Dan Deacon, Video Hippos, and local favorites Future Islands are a strain of electro-punk that has been gaining momentum over the past couple of years. Bonde do Role is an international example of this collapse of attitude, youthful aggression, and punk with guitars and sequencers. Generally, punk is known for short songs that are loud and aggressive and involve few chords and a lot of repetitive sounds and lyrics. Electro is not known for short songs but is known for lots of repetition and energy. Combine the two and you have an overload of passion and volume. The Death Set and Team Robespierre will show up in downtown Raleigh with a mission to smash all stereotypes mentioned in the previous three sentences.

With labels like Punk, Hard House and Hyphy attached to a myspace account you never know what to expect, but one click on either band’s songs reveal many layers and a desire to make music that moves the crowd. The chanting that shows up in many punk songs is in full force in most, if not all of Team Robospierre and Death Set’s songs. Their shows are high energy, both bands moving around on stage and in the crowd. Dancing shoes are required and considering the show is at The Downtown Event Center, there is lots of room to move around. Both bands are Brooklyn based and are their way to SXSW in Austin this year so they should be building up the energy as they travel through the area. Raleigh, be prepared and stand still if you dare.
Show is Thursday, March 6 @ 9pm
North Carolinian Lonnie Walker opens.
Listen to each band at the links below and show up with some built up energy.
The Death Set release their new album March 20th on Ninja Tune records, home of Bonobo, Kid Koala, Amon Tobin and Jaga Jazzist to name a few.
