sparkCon Weekend 2008

  sparkCon started last night at Tir Na Nog.  Today we have exciting events.This year’s sparkCon is a mature, streamlined set of events that will showcase local talent and bring our city’s best minds together.  Tonight’s Fashion Show in Moore Square is a can’t miss event. 

This year the organizers have come up with a nice statement summing it all up:

What is SPARKcon? It’s a local talent showcase and a series of workshops to capture ideas about the creative future of the Triangle area of NC.

SPARKcon is completely grass-roots! It’s not a city program, a non-profit, or an economic development stunt. It’s an ever-growing group of passionate local people showcasing their talents and having a say in our community… would you like to play a part?

danceSPARK: Schizophrenic Octopus’ Breakdancing Competition at Loft 135 Sept. 19, 10 p.m.

bazaarSPARK: 30 local vendors, including fashion designers, crafters, a flea market, a farmers’ market and more Sept. 20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

groundSPARK: Street painting near City Market Sept. 19, 3-7 p.m.; Sept. 20, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

artSPARK: Image slam at Moore Square Sept. 20, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 213 Fayetteville St. (Soon to Open Foundation Bar) Friday and Sunday, noon-8 p.m.; noon-10 p.m. on Saturday

storySPARK: G.D. Gearino and William Conescu read in Moore Square Sept. 19, 2-4 p.m.

We are totally hot for the erotic reading at Metro tonight Sept. 19, 10 p.m.

fashionSPARK: The biggest sparkCon event.  You can’t miss our local designers talents.  Featuring favorites AHPeele and Raleigh Denim Sept. 19, 8-10 p.m. Raleigh Denim will be premiering their women’s line at the event.

ideaSPARK: The product of today’s idea confrence will be presented at the Urban Design Center on Sunday Sept. 21, 2-4 p.m

filmSPARK: Films Saturday evening in Moore Square Sept. 21, 8-10 p.m.
