After a hibernation period of more than 18 months, the Bickett Spelling Bee is has returned once again. This iteration of the bee (originally conceived by Bickett Gallery founder Molly Miller) will take place on Thursday, September 30th at Kings Barcade on Martin Street.

Featuring original hostess Claire Hester, the Bickett Spelling Bee is a good old fashioned spelling contest for adults punctuated by free beer for correct answers (yes, you’ll have to drink it) and vicious mockery for missteps in etymological thinking.

Fabulous prizes will be provided for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers.

Registration begins at 9:00 PM, with the bee starting promptly at 9:30. The entry fee is $5, with a $3 cover for those who wish to watch but not participate.

Finally, our fair city’s burning question will be answered: who IS the best drunk speller in Raleigh?

heard that the new bar in the Depot building - the Union is doing a spelling bee also.  Haven’t been yet, but I stumbled into one in a bar in Williamsburg up in NY a few months ago.  Looked like a lot more fun than I thought it would be.

It is rather interesting for me to read the article. Thanx for it. I like such topics and everything that is connected to them. I definitely want to read a bit more on that blog soon.
