The Bickett Spelling Bee is back, but this time in downtown Raleigh. The crew at Raleigh Quarterly is calling it The Bickett Spelling Bee Reborn. I’m gonna call it The HumbleBee since it will now be located at the downtown eatery Humble Pie. A (local) beer sponsor should be lined up soon and similar to Bickett, once you get a word right, you’ll have to drink up before your next turn.
This could get ugly, so practice up. D-E-B-A-U-C-H-E-R-Y.
On Thursday, April 16 at 9pm, bring your brain (the rest of you is also welcome) to Humble Pie in Raleigh’s Warehouse District. Spelling and debauchery will ensue the likes of which ESPN could never cover.
Admission for bee-ers will be $5 or the purchase of a Raleigh Quarterly, which also costs $5. All proceeds go to the production of the print magazine. Bee participants will be presented with a hoppy surprise!

Spelling Bee Bickett Gallery Humble Pie
Let the buzz bee-gin! The old Bickett Gallery is a lost treasure, a one-time epicenter of Raleigh hipnicity—so it’s good to reclaim a piece of it. If the new bee is half as cool as the art work featured on this post, we’re on the brink of a butt-kickin’ new tradition ... and educational experience. Spell on!
oh so hipster!
We’ve got Lone Rider bringing the keg! Shotgun Betty Wheat!
Hope everyone can make it!
thanks for sharing! this time I can walk home…
Ooh, Super excited about the spelling and the beer. The guys know what they’re doing. Fun for all!!! Do we have to do anything special to spell or is it just open once things get started?
It was extremely interesting for me to read that post. Thanks for it. I like such themes and everything connected to them. I would like to read more on that site soon.
