Somewhere between the world of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and The White Stripes you’ll find a group called The Black Keys. Blues and rock are meshed almost perfectly by this energetic duo. They recently released their fifth studio album and will be sure to play many songs off of it when they pass through Raleigh on Sunday October 5th at Disco Rodeo.
The Black Keys’ new album is called Attack and Release and was released in April of 2008 on Nonesuch Records. Although it does retain The Black Keys from former albums, it was produced by Danger Mouse (aka The Grey Album and Gnarls Barkley). The production is stepped up and the new sound is very layered. I have personally never seen The Black Keys live, but have been told that they are one of the bands that even better live than they are on their albums. Hopefully they can reproduce the new album’s sound on stage. It is sure to be an animated and hard rocking night. I hear that one of their songs is even in a sex scene of the film Black Snake Moan. Don’t think there could be a better place for their music in a film score….
Tickets on Sale June 13 via Cradle’s website but it looks like The Black Keys already have a fan site with tickets for sale. The show sponsored by Cat’s Cradle and The Royal Bangs (beware of very intense and colorful website) open.
Also, be sure not to miss Wolf Parade at Disco Rodeo on July 29th.
