This First Friday brings a crop of fresh work that we are stoked to see.  Rebus Works opens the second installment of the fantastic Plastic Works show. If you are a photography fan or just into rich images this show contains rich images produced from primitive plastic cameras. With images from all over the world, and a huge list of artists- this show is not to be missed.

Rebus will also feature works from Jason Whitman at Stitch.  Whitman’s illustrations combine patterning and figurative sketches and build on an modern pop aesthetic.

Artspace continues their leadership in bringing the best of NC’s artists into town with a show Intimate Animals. This show features Heather Freeman and Steven Subotnick two artists whose connection with anthropomorphic animals creates a perfect compliment to each other.  Freeman’s digital imaging combines layered collage like scenes with her acquaintances’ depictions of personal demons.  Those demons come in the form of animals personified with human features and actions.  Subotnick will be showing animations featuring anthropomorphic animals engaged in human-like situations and arch-typical roles.  This show should not be missed. Also, be sure to catch David Eichenberger’s final showing of work from his 6 month residency at ArtSpace.

Bonded Llama will host a $25 show featuring tons of new work by many great local Artists. Here is your chance to own work by: Garrett Scales Left, Matt Scofield, Victor Knight, David Eichenberger, Sean Kernick, Greg Davis, Adam Peele, Bart Cusick, Briana Martinez, Ben Tuttle, Ann Marie Kennedy, Derek Toomes, Art Stone, Gretchen McLaren, Elizabeth Niemeyer, Adam Barnhill at a bargain price. You can preview the work here.

101 Lounge will feature Japanese inspired works by recent NCSU grad Emily-Claire Stevens. And J.B. Davis’ surrealistic expressionism.

Lump will feature installations by two Philadelphia artists, Joy Feasley and Paul Swenbeck.  The show is called Worms are the Words and tells a story around classic ritual.

The Lodi Project will feature unframed $25 artworks.  All proceeds go to help Haiti. The show will include posters by our very own Brittain Peck, the artist behindThe All Black Van.

Finally, the Museum of Science will be showing 2010: The Year We Make Contact the 1984 follow up to 2001: A Space Odyssey at 7pm as well as live blues starting at 6pm.
