Rainy as it may be; there are a bunch of new fine art opening across the city.

The band Xiu/Xiu brings a mixed media show to lump.  In true lump fashion we expect it to be uncommercial and true to the artists - the title of the show is "I Hate This Suffocating Fucking Towne" describing it as "all of the pieces are symbols of the wreck that is the mind and heart of Xiu Xiu."

Flanders open two group shows, the first "In the Flat Field" -  is a mixed media group show curated by "Jason Stopa" and the second is "Basic Instinct" - an exhibition curated by Sasha Okshteyn in partnership with Black & White Gallery, of Brooklyn, NY.

DesignBox will host Raleigh favorite screen print team AHPeele, and Rebus works has new drawings by Jason Whitman.

ArtSpace has 4 new shows.  The much loved local, Garrett Scales, a spraypain stencil artist who lays out tribal-like patterned women in hot pastels and neons.  Catherine Thronton's painted clay characters.  The Art Space members show of new works. Possibly most exciting is Andrea Donnelly's works: huge imagery created by using different ink blotting techniques combined with altering the cloth as its made.

Finally, a very analoge show: Film9 Collective, a group of local photographers sworn to film will be hosting their first group show at the Morning Times Gallery tonight.  Be sure to stop in to see the young Raleigh photographers explore the old tradition and try to shed the digital identity of generation Y.

That’s not a picture of Monica Damron.  That’s a picture taken by Monica Damron.  The caption is misleading.
