Flanders 311 does not play second fiddle to its SeaBoard counterpart. Consistently 311 has shown some of the most interesting work in town. This month Betsy Barnum and Matthew Curran share the space in a show called Face It.

Also on the Agenda, two hard working young women sharing the walls of the Morning-Times gallery. Tracy Spencer and Casey Porn have become staples of the local art scene. Porn’s illustrative work feels Disney but achieves something deeper through juxtaposition of beast and modern object. Ms. Spencer is blessed with a contextual knowledge and a rabid tendency to create in mass quantities. Spencer’s denim stretched forms reference painting but create their image through the cutting, and stitching of the surface. Tonight is also the last night to see some older work by Spencer at the Seaboard location of Flanders- make the trip and understand the artists evolution over the last few years.
Finally, FM goods and sounds will have David Eichenberger and Derrick McNew. Described as a “dudacious depiction of dash & deftness,“ whatever that means, but really, it should be an excellent show. Eichenberger has matured with each showing and he represents an exciting segment of young Raleigh artists.
