Winter First Fridays always tend to be a bit quieter than the rest of the year. The cold and post holiday consumption hangover may just slow the average art buyer down. This First Friday is no different, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of cool work to see.
The Art of Business is opening at the Raleigh City Museum. The show is a historic look at commercial graphic design in our city. Painstakingly created from the museum’s massive archives, this show is sure to be interesting to history buffs and design geeks alike.
The LODi Project returns with some new stuff, including a photo installation, a currated local show and much more. The LODi Project sits back behind Peace college, but should be worth the drive (or long walk) - if you haven’t seen what this space has to offer, you owe it to your self.
Scientific lllustrator Liz Bradford will be showing new works at helios. The coffee shop is a daily visit for many, but consistently brings great art shows. This month is no exception and stopping by tonight should be a great dose of visual stimulation.
The Morning Times will be showing Lauren Turner’s rich collages. This show is presented by AIGA Raleigh, but fortunately we haven’t seen any typography in the preview.
Rebus Works, Flanders and Artspace are all offering second chances at the beautiful work that went up in December. Via Penland at Rebus is a favorite of ours and Bill Sullivan at Flanders is eye poping giant oils from NYC. See last month’s agenda for images.
Following all of that Blacklisted returns to Five Star. The area’s most energetic monthly, its a great way to close your hectic first friday schedule.

Julia Swinn is at the Busy Bee tonight as well.
“Come out to Busy Bee on the first First Friday of the new decade and check out paintings by Julia Swinn. A portion of the total art sales will be donated to a local charity (Wine to Water.)”
