Sarah Blackmon, Communication 1 @ Stitch
First Friday Map and Guide to the Art Exhibitions >
Last First Friday was drowned in rain, so we don’t mind one bit that many of the excellent shows from last month return for a second appearance. For new shows, we are really excited about Sarah Blackmon’s new works at Stitch.

Designbox has a really interesting sculpture show by Lauren Pegram, human scale sculptures that “carry subtle anti-racist and feminist undertones.”
Monica Damron will be showing traditional darkroom developed photography at the Morning Times. A novelty just in that it isn’t digital, but we expect high minded themes from the Duke Center for Documentary Studies student.

Flanders opened a show last night featuring works by Nancy Baker and Oriane Stender. Stender has collages and “money quilts” that develop a conversation around women’s work and the current financial climate.
AHPeele will also be showing illustrations by Dwight Morgan and Lee buckner with Torpor & Double Negative performing live music. This party starts at 8pm and goes into the night.
Rebus Works continues to show the fantastic Plastic Works show. If you are a photography fan or just into rich images, this show contains rich images produced from primitive plastic cameras. With images from all over the world, and a huge list of artists- this show is not to be missed.
If you missed it last month, Artspace has a great show: Intimate Animals. This show features Heather Freeman and Steven Subotnick two artists whose connection with anthropomorphic animals creates a perfect compliment to each other.
Lump will continue to show installations by two Philadelphia artists, Joy Feasley and Paul Swenbeck. The show is called Worms are the Words and tells a story around classic ritual.

That money quilt is wild.
A quilty pleasure of sorts, no? eh?
Thank you for publicizing our show, Empire Falls, at Flanders. I hope you all come out and see it before it closes on March 28. The piece pictured above is a money weaving, not a quilt, but the show includes both. (I always feel quilty, Sean, whether justified or not.) Check it out!
