The George Closes Its Doors on Glenwood South

After less than a year open, The George, formerly April and George closed its doors last night on Glenwood South. But then again, what goes down, must come up…..or maybe its the other way around.

The George opened earlier in 2008 and it doesn’t seem as though it was able to make the splash that it hoped for on Glenwood South. Although I personally spoke out against using money as a naming factor back in January, I did visit (and enjoy) The George and it was much better than its previous tenant. Attention was paid to decor and style. One time I remember sitting in the same seat for hours, enjoying some beers and watching the entire Michel Gondry “Best of…” DVD over and over. Gotta love that crayola dvd interface. Style indeed.

The George is a sad loss to the Glenwood South strip but maybe with Solas as the new McDonald’s on the block, all other locales won’t be able to sustain the competition.

Sorry to see this place shut down.  Enjoyed having beers/watching the “visual art” and the food wasn’t bad.  Sucks to see it go!!

This is so sad—and a serious loss to Glenwood South. The place was beautiful, the creative food was fascinating and delicious, and it really had a “neighborhood” kind of feel. Thanks for the memories, Rick!

Although I never visited while it was the George, I did enjoy it as April and George.  It’s too bad that it’s closing.  Let’s hope something fills the space soon.

Now where am I going to spend all my time?  It probably won’t be Solas…

who are you kidding Bronce, I’m sure you’ll just go back to hanging out at Haven or Brooklyn Heights.

Oh man! I really LOVED The George and its’ staff. Its too bad they couldn’t make it work,it really was an awesome place to chill and have some drinks with friends. I will definitely miss the place. Good Luck to Rick Yost in what ever he chooses to do!
