After less than a year open, The George, formerly April and George closed its doors last night on Glenwood South. But then again, what goes down, must come up…..or maybe its the other way around.
The George opened earlier in 2008 and it doesn’t seem as though it was able to make the splash that it hoped for on Glenwood South. Although I personally spoke out against using money as a naming factor back in January, I did visit (and enjoy) The George and it was much better than its previous tenant. Attention was paid to decor and style. One time I remember sitting in the same seat for hours, enjoying some beers and watching the entire Michel Gondry “Best of…“ DVD over and over. Gotta love that crayola dvd interface. Style indeed.
The George is a sad loss to the Glenwood South strip but maybe with Solas as the new McDonald’s on the block, all other locales won’t be able to sustain the competition.
