If you’re looking to take a break from the heat (or cold…what’s with this weather?) this weekend during Artsplosure, the Pour House Music Hall is offering an indoor alternative to the outdoor event. The aptly titled Insplosure will take place this Saturday, May 15th, from noon to 5pm. Located just across the way from the 31st annual Raleigh arts festival’s main location in Moore Square, the Pour House will play host to local artists displaying photography, painting, jewelry, textiles, pottery, home goods and more.
Insplosure’s spokesperson Caitlin Cary says that the event began when she and “a few other ‘artsy’ members of the Pour House staff decided that Artsplosure needed a local-friendly, air-conditioned ‘cousin.’” Since the venue was always open during Artsplosure, the staff had noticed that many people enjoyed the Pour House as a great place to beat the heat and grab a cold beer. According to Cary, “it seemed like a no-brainer to fill the ample space up with art for sale.” It’s been four years since its inception, and each year, Insplosure has grown to become a more and more popular event, and is now a regular stop for many who enjoy the indoor art offerings.
This year’s returning artists include:
Ronnie Tomany - makes “Wrist Records,” - vinyl cuffs made from recycled 12” records
Amanda Davis (La Te Da) - fashions jewelry, hair ornaments, and other wearables from new and recycled materials
Troy Jeffries - calligraphic and figurative painter, often creates work on-site during Insplosure.
Kirk Adam - painter and screenprinter, offers an array of creations, from paintings to tees to keychains
Greg Clayton - creator of “The Red Yak,” a graphic artist and screenprinter
Julia Hoffman - painter, portraitist, and jeweler
Liz Kelly - ceramicist, creates unique functional pots, cups, vases and more.
Mrs. Weese - an Insplosure fixture. She knits, sews, crochets and charms everyone with her whimsical creations.
Marjorie Barker Fish - seamstress and jeweler
Captive Collective - multi-media gurus: screen printed tees, lamps & chandeliers, wearables and home goods
Caitlin Cary - sews “baby wraps,” kimono-style garments made of funky cotton prints. New this year, “birdy pillows.”
In addition to these artists, Insplosure will also host several first-time displayers, including:
Chris Williams of Plastic Flame - hand-screenprinted posters
Zass Design - jewelry made from recycled paper products
Katie Moore - unique hand-embroidered homewares
Jody Cedzillo (Flytrap) - hand screenprinted textiles
Jennifer George - button jewelry
AraLeigh Studios -fine jewelry from semi-precious stones and metals
With 30 beers on tap and a full liquor bar available, this Pour house event is sure to draw crowds looking to looking to quench their thirst for both beverages and great local art.
