This Week in Music:  January 18-25

Bombadil @ Hideaway BBQ
This is the second to last show before Hideaway closes.  Bombadil, the sea shanty raconteurs, should make this a night to remember.

Tiger Thief, The Love Language @ The Downtown Event Center
These two bands have always ran in similar circles, although TLL was then under the name The Capulets.  This may be one of the best rock ‘n roll shows in downtown Raleigh so far in 2008.  It will also be Tiger Thief’s last show with their current bassist, who is moving to Canada.  They are currently looking for a new one.  Maybe they’ll try out potentials on stage.

Early - theeverybodyfields @ The Pour House
I still remember the night I first heard Sam Quinn’s voice.  It was at a Tosco after-party at The Evening Muse in Charlotte, and I had to wait for hours to see “the mysterious guy with the funny beard” but damn was it worth it.  Sam and Jill harmonize in a way that sounds like the wind blowing softly over the Appalachian Mountains on a warm summer Tennessee morning.  A relaxing show before going to see Future Islands three blocks away.

Late - Future Islands @ Slim’s Downtown
Formerly Art Lord and the Self Portraits, these electro rockers from Greenville have toured with Dan Deacon and bring crowds to their feet.  Dancing shouldn’t be this fun and silly.

Neu Romance @ The Globe
Despite losing Kings, Chico and crew continue on at Tir Na Nog on Sundays and the Globe on Thursdays with their Neu Romance music night.  The Globe is a new upscale restaurant/bar on Glenwood South that seems to be gathering a bit of steam.

Break-dancing Competition @ Tir Na Nog
This can’t be anything less than fun, or pint-sized destruction.
