Tonight, October 7th, Tula Boxx brings another show to the Kings stage, with “Autumn Leaves”. Along with some stand up comedy, there will be an interview with Seth Lester and his adventures crossing the country and learning the cultures of various cities while working in their coffee shops. Peter Lamb and the Wolves play the house band for this talk-show formatted performance. They will be playing at various spots in the evening, including a performance highlighting Tula’s championship-caliber whistling. They also get the interview treatment. This starts around 9:30pm and admission is $6.

Friday, the 8th, Raleigh’s Annuals are welcomed back to an intimate setting, bringing their friends Ryan Gustafson and Jenna and The Jintlemin with them. Its been awhile since we’ve heard from Annuals, so here’s a great chance to check them out. Show starts at 9:00pm and admission is $10.

After a few quiet, hot summer months at home, Bowerbirds will return to the road this fall. Saturday October 9th would be a great opportunity to see them off and revisit a great performance at Hopscotch. DJ Gonzo spins throughout the night. Its also a good chance to check out Kid Future before his set at the Cooke Street Carnivale next week. Show starts at 10pm.

Rounding out the weekend on Sunday are the likes of Filthy Bird, Pinche Gringo, The Loners and Whatever Brains. These great bands are playing in support for their friends Caroline and Siobhan, who were married in Boston last October. This reception will be a rockin’ one, so don’t miss it! $5 suggested donation and all the fun starts at 6pm. At 10pm, DJ Pankcakes, aka Mister Girl, will close out the celebration down at Neptune’s.

Is this a news story or an ad for Kings? Kinda hard to tell.
So glad Kings is back. I’ve been driving West less than I used to.
It’s not an ad… Vince posted this because he wanted to share with people the fun local stuff going on at Kings this weekend. No one is getting paid here. Anyone who puts together a event can submit it to New Raleigh and maybe they will write about it… This is just about supporting the growing community. Thanks Vince, you’re the man.
Have to agree with Bosintang here. I like Kings, and I’m glad that they’ve re-opened, but the other clubs in this town that kept the music scene alive during Kings’ absence haven’t suddenly gone away. They’re still booking good music too. Supporting the growing community doesn’t just mean supporting one club. Spread the love!
For my money, the best shows happening this weekend are MAKE tonight at Dive Bar and the Octoberfest shindig on Sunday at J. Betski’s with Static Minds. Slim’s also has a good show tonight with The Hell No.
Karen you make a good point. But New Raleigh isn’t going to write about a show they haven’t heard about. If these clubs and bands want to be covered on New Raleigh then they must send press releases to writers. On the other side of the argument, if these clubs and bands ARE letting the writers know and New Raleigh is still not covering the shows that deserve attention, then that’s a problem. But my guess is that know one let them know.
Thanks for letting me know about the MAKE show, I’ve heard good things about them.
Five Stars 10 year anniversary is this weekend. Maybe it’s worth a mention? I don’t know that they would know that they need to send a press release to you. Here’s the line up from their Facebook event though.
